At Work

I solve problems

My genuine curiosity about patterns in data has allowed me to exercise my SQL skillset targeting large sets of data. Through each of my undertakings, I continue to become more efficient in my application of set-based analysis and data manipulation. I thoroughly enjoy the process of reconciling data, identifying outliers, and providing functional explanations for discrepancies.

I enjoy the challenge of puzzles at work and the satisfaction of solving them. I excel when working proactively (such as planning and executing a data migration), as well as reactively (such as pinpointing software defects and resolving them).

I improve processes

I am always looking for a more efficient or automated way to achieve goals; I’ve identified and implemented multiple process improvements within different teams. I’ve created templates for documenting and applying automated configuration allowing for a streamlined and standardized approach that increases speed and consistency of configuration. I’ve established integrations between different software/tools to automate existing processes such as uploading test results and sending appropriate notifications.

At Home

I tinker

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been intrigued with how things work, specifically technology. Since middle school, I’ve been teaching myself new skills in a variety of technologies and programming languages, and have been acquiring them continuously over the years. I like to keep my mind sharp by completing mathematical/computing challenges on Project Euler.

For the past decade or so, I’ve been experimenting with and learning about Linux, and I’m hooked. I’ve continued to grow my UNIX skill set through a number of projects small (Raspberry Pi), and large (custom-built home server). Both have allowed me to hone my skills in both established and new technologies.

I create

I’ve always found great satisfaction in creating something with my own two hands. I started out in college building coffee tables and other basic furniture for me and my roommates, and have been challenging myself ever since with all sorts of woodworking and DIY projects. A few years ago, my wife and I moved into a 100-year-old home in Portland, Maine, and we have tackled projects in nearly every room in the house. I’ve worked projects as small as skim coating and painting walls to as large as tearing rooms down to studs and rebuilding. I’ve also gotten my hands dirty with built-in shelving, wainscoting, and radiator covers, all of which give me an excuse to break out the power tools.
